Apple Crumble
I searched and searched for a good Apple Crumble recipe that did not have oats in it. While I love a good oat meal and no bake cookies are one of my absolute favorites, we have family members who cannot tolerate oats. Additionally I personally found the texture to be not quite right.
I wanted something soft, doughy, and “fall apart good”. You see I love apple pie filling but don’t really care much for pie crust. So an apple crumble is a great alternative but I couldn’t find a recipe that was just right for what I was wanting.
I finally found a recipe that I was able to use as a spring board. After several adaptation and altering it to suit my large family I was able to come up with a family favorite that everyone enjoys on repeat.
This apple crumble recipe has all the deliciousness of an apple pie filling with the soft, doughy crumble mixed throughout and a crispy but still doughy crumbled top.
And the best part?! I can throw this recipe together in less than 20 minutes of hands on time and it yields enough to give all of us a generous portion, which is great for this busy momma of 6.
I will throw the apple crumble together while dinner is cooking, toss it in the oven while we eat, and it’s ready to go by the time we’re done eating. It’s that easy!
What You’ll need
- 6-7 medium apples. I usually do 4 Granny Smith apples and 3 slightly sweeter apples like gala.
- Brown sugar (I make my own with organic cane sugar and black strap molasses ).
- Cinnamon
- Flour. (I use freshly milled einkorn flour but any flour will do, even gluten free flours.)
- Lemon juice
- Butter. Coconut oil can be used as well.
- Large cast iron pan or 9×13 glass baking dish.
