Not Just A Soup

Have you ever had bone broth? And I don’t mean just any old bone broth, but real homemade bone broth. Bone broth is a rich and delicious broth that is good on its own, makes an excellent base for a variety of soups, and can be used in other recipes like gravy. While store bought bone broth will be very similar to chicken or beef broth homemade bone broth is in a league of its own. Find my recipe for bone broth here.

What Makes Bone Broth So Special?

Historically bone broth was made and consumed regularly by the vast majority of people. While they might not have known just how beneficial bone broth was, they by nature, ate whole real food (processed food wasn’t a thing) and by practice let nothing go to waste. Making bone broth from scraps was just a way of life.  I for one think this is one practice of old that should be started up again by everyone. Once you’ve seen all of the amazing benefits bone broth has to offer, you’ll understand why. Homemade bone broth is a nutrient dense powerhouse full of several vitamins and minerals Like calcium and magnesium and has numerous health benefits.

One of the biggest benefits of Bone broth is it’s full of gelatin, which is beneficial for your skin, joints, hair, nails, and so much more. Consuming bone broth even just a couple times a week will help support and strengthen your body on multiple levels. The single biggest benefit of gelatin is that it can help restore gut health. In the same way gelatin can help repair your skin and joints, it can also help heal and repair the gut lining. You can read more about the importance of gut health here.

Additional benefits include reduced inflammation, Immune support, aids in detoxing, stimulates production of glutathione (our primary antioxidant), and can support brain health. Hopefully by now you are starting to agree that bone broth is an amazing source of wellness that everyone should be consuming.

Anyway you like it!

So, whether your drink a cup on its own every day or you cook with it a few times a week bone broth is a must have in your daily diet. And the versatility is endless. Make it savory or plain, use it for soups, gravies, or sauces, or just drink it. You can even make things like bone broth hot chocolate! Yes, you read that right! Bone broth hot chocolate. This is something I’ve only stumbled across recently and you can bet I will be experimenting with it this winter. I’ll be sure to let you all know how it goes and will share a recipe if and when I have one.

Even for someone who just cannot find the time to make bone broth there are options. Get a good quality collagen or gelatin powder and use them to make Jello or to add to your smoothies and you will still reap many of the benefits that bone broth provides. I get mine from Perfect Supplements here
