Classic Chocolate Pudding

Made With Grass Fed Gelatin

This classic Chocolate Pudding recipe is a family favorite that my kids ask for again and again. Made with grass fed gelatin and whole food ingredients it’s a delicious snack that I can feel good about giving them.

After lots of trial and error I’ve perfected my gelatin based pudding and the result is a silky smooth pudding reminiscent of those store bought pudding cups I used to love as a kid. Unlike those store bought pudding cups, however, this pudding is full of wholesome ingredients that are actually good for you. And! Like all of my recipes this recipe will make 6-7 generous servings that is perfect for my large family.

Throw together this tasty snack in less than 20 minutes of hands on time

what You’ll Need

  • Medium pot
  • Medium glass bowl
  • Whisk
  • Immersion blender (blending the pudding before serving is the trick to getting this gelatin based pudding silky smooth. A hand mixer can work but an immersion blender gives the best results)
  • Grass fed gelatin (I get mine from Perfect Supplements)
  • Milk of choice (the best thing about this recipe is you can use any milk. We use organic grass fed milk but you can use a dairy free alternative like almond or coconut milk or even raw milk)
  • Cocoa powder
  • Sugar
  • Salt
  • Vanilla extract

Directions

1) In your glass bowl whisk together 1 cup of milk and 1 scoop of grass fed gelatin, set aside to bloom

2) Meanwhile heat 2.5 cups of milk on medium heat and whisk in 1/4 cup of sugar, 2 tablespoons cocoa powder, and 1 teaspoon of salt. If you want this to be a little more chocolatey you can add a 3rd tablespoon of cocoa powder.

3) Allow the chocolate milk mixture to come to a light simmer for 2 minutes. Do not boil the mixture.

4) Pour the hot mixture into your glass bowl with the bloomed gelatin and whisk together making sure all the gelatin is dissolved.

5) Mix in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.

6) Cover in the fridge for 3hrs or until the pudding has completely set. It will resemble jello more than pudding once it has set.

7) Blend with your immersion blender until the pudding is silky smooth, serve and enjoy!

Final Thoughts

I most often will make this the night before and will leave it in the fridge over night so it’s ready to go the next day for a morning or afternoon snack.

I love how quickly I can toss it all together. And I love even more that I can feed my kids such a healthy snack. You can read more about the health benefits of gelatin and collagen here.

Not all gelatin is created equal. Some cheaper gelatins do not provide protein and all the benefits that real grass fed gelatin does. Make sure whatever brand you choose is a high quality grass fed gelatin. My favorite brand is Perfect Supplements. Not only is their gelatin made from grass fed, pasture raised cows but it’s certified glyphosate free. Save 10% on your order with my code MELSHOLISTICLIFESTYLE10

If there is any leftover pudding you will most likely need to re blend it before serving in order to get that silky smooth texture. You can definitely enjoy the pudding without blending it but it will have a texture now similar to jello rather than pudding.
