Mixed Berry Smoothie
Smoothies are a staple in our home. They’re quick and easy to make and can be so versatile. You can also pack a lot of nutrients into them making them a delicious way to get some much needed vitamins and minerals.
When I started learning about the Trim Healthy Mama lifestyle and the importance of separating fuels (fat and carbs) in order to allow our body to burn through the fuel we consume optimally I had to rethink some of my favorite smoothie recipes. This dairy free mixed berry smoothie will either be an E (energizing carb meal) or a FP (fuel pull). A FP is either a stand alone snack that has very little fuel (carb or fat) in it, or can be paired with an E or S meal.
I prefer to pack my smoothies full so I usually end up making this as an E and either eat it alone or pair it with another E or FP for a complete meal.

WhAt You’ll Need
- Blender
- Drinking glass or jar
- Frozen mixed berries
- Frozen zucchini
- Water or dairy free milk of choice*
- Collagen or dairy free protein powder*
- Vanilla (optional)
- Greens Powder or Matchinga (optional)
- Super foods powder (optional)
- Vitamin C Powder (optional)
* In order to keep this smoothie and E or FP be sure your dairy free milk has less than 5g of fat. Since we make our own almond milk I choose to use water to keep it from being a crossover (fuel combo). Also make sure your protein powder doesn’t have any added sugar or put you over the fat limit either.
Instructions
- Add 1 cup of mixed berries and 1/2 cup of zucchini to you blender. I use frozen so I don’t need to add any ice. If using fresh add about 1/2 cup of crushed icecubes.
- Add in 1 scoop of collagen or dairy free protein powder.
- Add in any desired powders.
- Add 1/8 tsp of vanilla
- Add 1/2 to 1 cup of desired liquid depending on your desired thickness.
- Blend until smooth and enjoy
If you desire this smoothie to be a FP instead of an E use only 3/4 cup of of berries.
Final Thoughts
I’m all about simplicity in our house. Want to make your smoothie making even simpler. Use an immersion blender and blend your smoothie directly in a mason jar and drink it straight from the jar. Simply rinse your immersion blade and clean up is all done!
