make your own electrolyte drink
Our bodies need electrolytes, they are vital to our bodily functions. They need to be replenished daily, and even more so during times of prolonged or intense activity, or if the weather has been hot. Common electrolytes include sodium, potassium, calcium and bicarbonate. Magnesium, zinc, selenium, and chloride are also important electrolytes.
Fruits and veggies are excellent sources of these electrolytes as well as Himalayan pink salt or Celtic sea salt. Sometimes though, we need that extra boost. The problem is that a majority of electrolyte drinks sold in stores are full of harmful ingredients like food dyes, natural and artificial flavors, and sugar or sugar substitutes. This alone makes these drinks more harmful than beneficial. Then there are the electrolytes themselves in the drinks. They are almost always from synthetic, non- bioavailable forms. Synthetic vitamins and minerals are full of toxins and are hard on our bodies. Read more about it here.
Thankfully making your own electrolyte drink is easy to do and can be done for the fraction of the price. Also if you add the right ingredients your electrolyte drink becomes an adrenal cocktail supporting both your adrenals and your body’s need for electrolytes.
what you’ll need
- 8oz glass jar with lid
- Filtered water
- Lemon juice(be sure to choose pure lemon juice or use fresh squeezed lemons)
- Pure maple syrup
- Himalayan pink salt or Celtic Sea salt
- Cream of tartar
These ingredients are full of minerals providing our bodies with the electrolytes they need.
Optional add ons
- Match green tea. Give yourself an added nutritional and energy boost by adding matcha powder to your electrolyte drink. I use this from Perfect Supplements.
- Collagen. Adding collagen turns this electrolyte drink into an adrenal cocktail providing natural support for your adrenals. I get mine here from Perfect Supplements.
- Vitamin C powder. Add additional immune support. I get mine here from Earthley Wellness.

Directions
- Fill your jar with 6-7oz of filtered water
- Add a dash of salt and cream of tartar, 1 tsp lemon juice, and 2 teaspoons of maple syrup. You can add more maple syrup if you prefer a sweeter drink. But I personally think too much maple syrup is not a good idea
- If adding any of the optional add ons, use 1 scoop of matcha green tea powder, 1 scoop of collagen, and 1/4 teaspoon of vitamin C powder.
- Screw the lid tightly on to your jar and shake for 1-2 minutes or until the drink is thoroughly mixed and enjoy!
That’s it. It really is that simple.
final thoughts
This drink can be consumed daily or even twice daily depending on your needs. I am currently struggling with thyroid and adrenal fatigue so I drink this 2 times a day as often as possible. I always include the optional add ons to get the maximum benefits. The days I get busy and don’t take 5 minutes to make a drink are rough, so I always do my best to get at least 1 drink a day.
