Guide To An All Natural First Aid kit
Have you ever thought about what’s in your first aid kit? From OTCs and antiseptics and more, I find most things in traditional first aid kits to do more harm than good with their laundry list of side effects. In this guide to an all natural first aid kit I’ll share natural alternatives that we use instead. After all if you’re going to use natural remedies for other things, it makes sense to have an all natural first aid kit.
*None of the following is medical advice. I’m simply sharing alternatives that we use in our home*
Minor Injuries
Obviously any major trauma should be evaluated at the emergency department but for minor injuries like bumps, bruises, cuts, and sprains an all natural first aid kit is more than capable of tackling it.

Instead using an antiseptic spray or wipe look for plain organic alcohol or witch hazel. If infection is a concern consider iodine. In place of an antibiotic ointment consider an all natural salve like Earthley’s all purpose salve. If you’re dealing with a sprain or bumps and bruises arnica is an excellent alternative for pain relief. Take homeopathic pellets orally or use a salve topically. For wounds or minor burns manuka honey and a comfrey salve work wonders to promote healing and relieve pain. [AD]
Bites and Stings
From bee stings to tick bites an all natural first aid kit can tackle it all. A black drawing salve can help alleviate symptoms from any type of bite or sting. Homeopathic ledum is particularly beneficial for tick bites but can be helpful for mosquitoe and other bug bites as well. Earthley’s sinus saver is another good product to have on hand. It’s full of natural antihistamines that can help alleviate allergic responses to some bites and stings. [AD]
*This is in no way a substitute for an epi pen if you experience anaphylaxis from a bite or sting you should proceed as instructed from you doctor*
Bandages
There are a verity of natural alternatives when it comes to bandages. Depending on your level of “crunchiness” you can opt for reusable cloth bandages (lots of DIY patterns online), 100% cotton gauze, or natural bandaids. We mostly use natural bandaids but cotton gauze with a reusable wrap works well for larger injuries. [AD]
Other
Some other things we keep on hand are colloidal silver, Earthley’s anti inflammatory, and pain potion. These products help round out our all natural first aid kit. We use the tinctures from Earthley in place of Tylenol and Ibuprofen. Colloidal silver has antibacterial properties and can help keep infections at bay. Of course if a serious infection occurs you should seek medical advice from a trusted medical professional. We also use a variety of essential oils depending on the need at the time. [Ad]
Thanks to all of the products listed throughout this post our family hasn’t needed an OTC in nearly 3 years. It brings me peace of mind knowing that I have the tools to take care of my family when those minor injuries happen without the nasty side effects that OTCs have.
