The Importance of Gut health
Before we dive into what gut health is, lets first discuss the importance of it. If you’ve been around the natural health world for any length of time you’ve probably heard of gut health at one point or another. That’s because gut health effects literally every aspect of your health. 75-80% of your immune system is in your gut, so gut health effects your immune health. Billions of neurotransmitters are found in the gut, as well as 60-70% of your serotonin production, so gut health effects your mental health. Inflammation, autoimmune diseases, allergies, oral health, eye health, and more can all be tied back to your gut health.
What is gut health
Alright, gut health is important, but what is gut health? Simply put gut health is the health of your gut microbiome. Our gut microbiome is home to all the bacteria within out digestive track and there are 10 times more microbial cells than human cells within the gut. The beneficial bacterium within our digestive tracks supports many aspects of our health. It is important to keep the good and bad bacteria in proper balance in order to maintain good health and for our bodies to thrive.
What does this mean for our overal health?
We are barely scratching the surface on everything that is affected by gut health, but it’s clear our guts do more than just digest our foods and a gut that is out of balance will not even do that well.
